Federal Government Shutdown

On November 6, 2025, a U.S. District Court ordered the federal government to issue full November SNAP benefit payments to eligible households. New York has begun issuing full SNAP benefits to all eligible households. Some New Yorkers could have access to their benefits as soon as Sunday, November 9, and all are expected to receive their full benefits by the end of the week. Overview

SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education is FREE to all individuals who qualify for and/or receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The program provides skill-based nutrition education classes and sponsors obesity prevention events in local communities on a variety of topics like: healthy eating on a budget, smart shopping for vegetables and fruit, healthy meal planning, basic cooking and food safety skills, weight control and physical activity. The goals of the SNAP-Ed New York program are to:

  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Drink less sugar-sweetened beverages
  • Exercise more and balance calories eaten as part of a healthy lifestyle
