Federal Government Shutdown

Programs overseen by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance – including Public Assistance and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – are not immediately affected by the federal government shutdown and are continuing to operate. Benefits will continue to be provided, and use of benefit cards are not impacted by the shutdown. Additionally, applications for these programs overseen by OTDA will continue to be accepted at this time. This message will be updated if additional information becomes available.

Transportation Initiative SFY 2022-23

Appropriation Level: $144,000

SFY 2022-23 Wheels for Work Funds were used to fund the Transportation Initiative. Eleven (11) local departments of social services were awarded Transportation Initiative funding in accordance with 12-LCM-11 to provide transportation services to TANF eligibles who are employed or participating in allowable employment activities. Local districts collaborated with service providers from the public and private sectors to design a program to meet the transportation needs of TANF eligible individuals residing in their district. Services may include driver education, modified public transportation services, van pool programs, transit passes, gas cards, car repairs, license and registration fees, auto insurance and auto loan programs.
