Federal Government Shutdown

The federally-funded Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) remains delayed until further notice as New York awaits funding from the federal government. Households lacking resources that can't afford a fuel delivery or are facing a utility shutoff can apply for Emergency Assistance through their local department of social services.

New York State has completed issuing full November SNAP benefits using federal funds. December SNAP benefits will be issued on a regular schedule without delay. The recently enacted federal spending bill also fully funds SNAP through the end of the federal fiscal year 2026.

Strengthening Families Through Stronger Fathers 2009-2010

Appropriation Level: $2,764,000

The NYS Strengthening Families Through Stronger Fathers Program is aimed at promoting responsible fatherhood. By identifying and addressing the needs of noncustodial fathers, such as employment, job readiness, job placement, arrears management, community reintegration services and parenting education, we can begin to equip fathers with the tools they need to overcome the barriers that prevent them from being involved in the lives of their children. SFTSF supports eight (8) responsible fatherhood programs throughout the state;

  • Northeast Parent and Child Society (Schenectady)
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (Jamestown)
  • Occupations, Inc. (Middletown)
  • STRIVE/East Harlem Employment Services, Inc. (NYC)
  • Seedco (NYC)
  • Syracuse Housing Authority (Syracuse)
  • Catholic Family Center (Rochester)
  • EAC, Inc. (Hempstead)
